Abstract

In verbal, visual, and acoustic arts as well as in myths, religion, and philosophy, the world of the mountains, but most especially the way into the mountains (›der Weg ins Gebirg‹) has often served as a thematic pretext to reflect on a poetical experience of the poetʼs self, the world, and transcendence in a poetological, i.e. self-referential way. This paper examines some aspects of the ›way into the mountains‹ and analyses their meaning in a wider metaphorical, parabolic and symbolical frame.
