Kultur(en) ohne Geschichte? Fragen zu einer kulturwissenschaftlichen Literaturgeschichte

Under the influence of Poststructuralism the cultural turns of the last 30 years have changed the traditional German humanities and social sciences fundamentally and have given rise to new disciplines focusing on culture. This has called a special field of literary studies into question – literary history. How is it, how is research that is dealing with it, to be conceptualised within cultural studies (Kulturwissenschaften)? – At present, mainstream trends like marginalisation and synchronisation mainly ignore historical perspectives. The essay claims that cultural studies run the risk of losing a historical understanding of (literary) culture and thus makes a stand against this with a model of a culturally orientated literary history extending the New Historicism and its theory.
