Gefallene links liegen lassen? Zur Rolle von Alltagsmetaphern in Interpretationen von Tanz und Tanztheater

The paper deals with the role of metaphor for the interpretation of dance and tanztheater. According to the notion of metaphor proposed by the cognitive science approach of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT), metaphorical projection is a fundamental principle of human thought. Conceptual metaphors are body-bound; the way the body interacts with the world implicitly motivates the organization of abstract conceptual domains. Using this theoretical framework, I discuss how speculative concepts of the human body as source of ›authenticity‹ emerge via a recurring activation of conceptual metaphors, especially in descriptions and interpretations of Café Müller by German choreographer Pina Bausch.
