Mystisches Erleben, Leben und Schreiben um 1900. Überlegungen zu den Grenzen der Literaturwissenschaft

In order to trace the margins of literary history, this paper analyses a subject that traverses those margins: the modern and godless mysticism in German and Austrian turn-of-the-century culture. It is a typical and important subject of cultural history, both because it concerns quite different disciplines and their histories, and because it is a significant context for the literature of its age. It raises the question of text-context-relationship: How to deal with the context? Within the specific context of 'neo-mysticism', the paper argues for a combined inter- and transdisciplinary approach of all the relevant disciplines and for the central role of literary history within this approach.
